Trekking around Bangalore

Bangalore has abundant places to choose from for holidaying. If you looking for an adventure getaways here is a list you can refer to.

Devara betta

Devarabetta the name suggests two hillocks with a temple on top of one. Located 17-20 km away from Doddaballpur, Devara Betta is a good trekkin place. It is approximately 70 km away from Bangalore and has monolith rocks where rock climbing can be done.
Doddaragi Halli Betta & Chickkaragi Halli Betta

Located 30 km from Bangalore, these small hills are situated near the National Park at Kalkere Koli(Poultry Farm). You need to take permissions to visit the park and you can head towards it only when you are accompanied by forest department staff.
Makali durga

Located 60 km away from Bangalore, this is a small granite hillock Makalidurga has a fort at 1350 meters where a Lord Shiva temple is situated. This is a good place to trek as you get to glimpse the mountain train, passing through the valley at the foothills. The mountain vegetation mainly comprises of date plants, lemon grass and small boulders. The best part are the lakes which are on both the sides of the hillocks.


Muthyala maduvu

Muthyalamaduvu or the Pearl Valley is situated 50 km from Bangalore. The water fall here are 92 m tall and when the water hits the rocks beneath it gives an impression of scattered pearls. A little temple dedicated to Shiva is located just besides the waterfall.
Nandhi hills

Located 60 km from Bangalore, Nandi Hills is situated off Bangalore-Hyderabad (NH-7) highway. The Nandi temple on the hills gives the hills its name; Nandidurg hill or Nandi Hills. The way to Nandi hills is beautiful especially in the monsoons when the forests on the path are covered in the snowy mist. Nandi Hill also has a historical importance. The summer residence of Tipu Sultan and Tipu’s Fall where his prisoners fell are located on this Hill. The summer residence is closed to public though.
Suvarna mukhi Located 30 km from Bangalore, Suvarnamukhi is inside the Bannerghatta National Park. There is Chanpakadhama Swamy temple on the way from where you can start trekking.

There is a beautiful stream that flows through the Suvarnmukhi Hills stretching out to a huge rock. There is a small temple of Lord Narsimha and Suvarnamukhi Pond which is believed to have powers to cure ailments. The best time to visit this place is from September to June.


Skandagiri

Situated 65 km from Bangalore, these are off the Bellary highway near Devanahalli junction. Skandagiri is at 1350 meters close to Nandi Hills. Papagni temple is the start point for trekking. There is a fortress which never goes out of sight even once. The trek is steep and you traverse through dense forests. As you reach Skandigiri you see the fort sprawled all across the hill. Due to its brilliant landscapes Karnataka Forest Department charges 15 bucks to people going up the hill.

Savanadurga
Located 60 km from Bangalore. Savandurga is close to Magadi taluk. These hills are 1226 m above sea level and are considered to have one of the largest monolith hills in India. Savanadurga consists of two hills; Karigudda (black hill) and Billigudda (white hill). These hills are a favorite amongst all adventurers.

Tip : A visit to a majority of these places would need special permission from the State Forest Department, but it is worth the trouble.
